Frequently Asked Questions
Who can come?
All youth currently in grades 9-12 are welcome to join. You do not need to be member of Holy Spirit to come on the trip. There will be limited opportunities for adult leaders, but there is not space for all parents to come along.
These trips can be unpredictable, and we will be spending a lot of time together as a group. Youth will need a flexible, positive attitude, and the desire to spend a lot of time together! If you have any questions about whether or not this trip is right for you, reach out to Danielle and start a conversation—email@example.com or (425) 823-2727 ext. 223.
What is wsyg?
Every three years ELCA congregations on the West Coast bring their high school youth together for great speakers and musicians, learning and small group experiences, worship, games, and tons of excitement!
What will it cost?
The trip will cost $2,000 a person BUT HSLC will cover half of those expenses with fundraisers, which means that each participant is responsible for paying $1,000. We understand that this is a big expense, and never want price to be a reason why you don’t participate. We offer a variety of options—including payment plans and scholarships—to any interested youth. Please don’t let price be a reason not to participate!
I think I want to come, but I’m not sure.
Trips like this can be a bit intimidating. If you’ve never come on a high school service trip before—or even if you have, but you have questions about this one—I encourage you to make an appointment to meet with me. I like to get to know participants and their families a bit before we go. The more I know about the group before we leave, the more I can do to help everyone have a fun, life-changing experience.
And, we’re also going to Disneyland?!?!
We will have a whole day to spend at a Southern California theme park. We will vote in January and the group will choose between a day at Disneyland or a day at Universal Studios. Either way, you’re in for an exciting day!
