Lenten Small Groups
Lent has long been a time of reflection and introspection in the life of the church. A time to examine ourselves – our hearts, our minds, our priorities. A time to repent – that is, to turn around and go in a different direction. For the past few years, we at Holy Spirit have gathered in small groups to talk and think about how we might do that together.
This Lent, we will gather to talk and think about peace. And we’ll begin with ourselves; “let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,” as the saying goes. But it’s more than a saying. It’s a road map, a starting point, a way for us to build peace in the world by building peace within ourselves.
There are practices to help with this. The Lenten study guide walks through six steps in five weeks, each one meant to help us along a path that keeps us engaged in advocacy and justice while also remaining compassionate toward ourselves and others. (It will definitely take longer than six weeks to accomplish this! It’s the work of a lifetime.) You can use this study guide on your own, or you can join a small group for support and encouragement.
At Holy Spirit, you can also purchase a music collection, Contemplative Spirits, created by four of our very gifted musicians. Each step in the study guide suggests one song in that collection that might be a good way to enter into that week’s practice.
You can sign up for a small group by filling out the form below. For additional questions or to learn more about this Lenten practice, contact Pastor Katy.
You can also watch Pastor Katy's weekly videos, which follow along with the study guide to allow you to participate even if you can't join a small group.
