Holy Spirit Lutheran Church has been very active in providing a safe environment for a long time. Many of the things in the policy have been informal policies for some of our ministries before this official policy was created. This policy and the training heighten awareness of problems and dangers that can exist for children and outline solutions of what we can do about them. Many of our volunteers in the past haven’t had a chance to understand that we have specific operating procedures. Through this training and our policy, we are hoping people will begin to see the kind of things we are doing and become aware of things we can do better as a community.
Our insurance now requires that we provide training opportunities and run a criminal background check on all volunteers and employees. The policy is to protect the children and the adults that work with our children and our youth. We have a responsibility to ensure our interactions with children and youth bless them, rather than harm them.
All adults working with our children and youth programs need to attend the training one time. Safe Haven training is conducted throughout the year so all have a chance to attend prior to working with our Children & Youth programs. The times for 2009-2010 include the following:
Childcare is available, but must be arranged two weeks in advance of each session.
For questions or more information, please call the church office.
Holy Spirit needs to have a check run by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on any person who will drive our vans or drive their personal vehicle for any Holy Spirit Lutheran Church sponsored event. This is done in order to maintain our insurance coverage. If you plan to drive for any event, please fill in both pages of a DMV Check Form and submit it, along with a copy of your driver’s license and proof of insurance (if you plan to drive your personal vehicle) to the church office.
