Disaster Preparedness and Response

We are organizing a number of activities to plan for and respond to disasters in our community and elsewhere:

Response efforts

Katrina Rebuilding – We have sent teams of volunteers to Ocean Springs, MS, to help with rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina.

Flood Rebuilding – Teams of volunteers traveled to the Washington Flood areas to help with rebuilding from the floods of January 2009.

Emergency Shelter – Holy Spirit has completed and is ready to open a warming shelter in our lower fellowship hall. When our neighbors need a warm place to stop in and warm themselves, charge cell phones and check email, we will be open to serve their needs. Several members of Holy Spirit have completed the necessary Red Cross Shelter and First Aid training. We have the generator and appropriate wiring to be able to support ~90 people at one time in the event of a long term power outage or other disaster which might affect our community.
