Who Are We?

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church is a Christian community called to be a compassionate, challenging, and inclusive witness to God’s love for the world. Through worship, study, service, and fellowship, we seek to encourage one another, to welcome all people, and to proclaim God’s call to justice and hope. What Do We Believe?

a COMPASSIONATE people who see the face of Christ in others, who pray for God’s peace, and who follow Jesus’ way of mercy and hope. In Jesus, we meet God’s remarkable vision of life and reconciliation for all. As people of God, we live compassionately in the world, honoring all people and working for their good. a CHALLENGING people who actively work for justice and peace. In the scriptures, we hear of God’s amazing and unconditional love, and God’s desire to renew the whole world. We commit ourselves to studying the bible – its message, its history, its complexity, and its joy. Through God’s Word, we are challenged and encouraged to love others as God has loved us. Holy Spirit is an Advocating congregation, committed to helping alleviate suffering and confronting the larger injustices which create suffering. You can learn more about our Advocating Identity.

an INCLUSIVE community, open to all people. We live out this call in many ways: one primary way is our identity as a Reconciling in Christ congregation. We welcome people of every race, ethnic background, social status, physical limitation, and sexual orientation. Holy Spirit Lutheran Church is an Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) church, a member of NW Washington Synod of ELCA, and a member of the Greater Kirkland Ecumenical Parish (GKEP). We believe that faith is meant to be lived in community, and so we seek partnerships with others. Locally and globally, we learn from those partnerships and offer ourselves as willing and eager to join with all who long for wholeness and peace.
